Home Restoration of the interior The restoration History of the Building |

"It is
the highest wisdom : strive for heavenly countries through contempt of the
world",
argued
Thomas a Kempis in his "Imitation of Christ". It was a warning to
the rich to use the filthy lucre for higher means, as a way to heaven. |
It is
in that direction that St Nicholas's church points, the first parish
church in the Netherlands with an emancipated urban architecture. A parish
church with the airs of a cathedral, housing real treasures of religious
art. The house of worship was repeatedly altered in the course of the
building process. It was not finishing the works but keeping on building
as such which became the goal, as it was a step ahead on the way to God. |
