One of the showpieces of St Nicholas's church is un-questionably the romantic organ built by the famous workshop Cavaillé-Coll in Paris. The new organ from the middle of the 19th century replaced the old organ by Van Peteghem. Most organs of the former generation were later equipped with broader pipes to produce more volume but this one remained more or less intact, apart from the incorporation of the Baker-mechanism and an electric fan. The organ case was designed by architect Jacques Van Hoecke, who had already established his fame.
